2015 Ride and Event Calendar

Before you ride
Before attending a Diva ride, please see The Fabulous Page entitled "Ride Notes" for more information, including more detail on ride levels.
Helmets
Wearing a helmet can minimize brain injuries in the event of a bicycle accident. All riders are required to wear a helmet on Diva rides. Please do not put our volunteer ride leaders in an awkward situation by asking them to make an exception. If you aren't sure if your helmet fits or it is uncomfortable, please visit your favorite bike shop to find a helmet that fits you.
Members
We welcome new riders to join us for a ride or two to see if we are the right group for you. Members can find non-publicized, member-only events listed on the yahoo! calendar.

APRIL
All rides in April and May begin at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.  For other events, please see listed times.

April 1: Paramount Cycles; 1320 Huffman Park Drive; Annual Meeting; 7:15 p.m. Meet other members; talk about upcoming rides and events; sign up for ride leading; find out what we're all about.

April 8: Trailside Repair Clinic; 7:15 p.m. For Members Only. Location information will be sent via email or find on yahoo group site. This is a hands-on clinic -- bring a clean bike wheel, tire levers, and pump and learn how to fix a flat.

April 11 (Saturday) Arctic Bicycle Club Bike Swap; 12:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. For more information, check out the ABC website.

April 15: Glenn Highway Trail, beginning at Bartlett High School. Warm up with a pavement ride. This ride is suitable for road bikes (unless we get a late snowfall) or a mountain bike (be sure to pump your tires up firmly for a faster ride).

April 22: Earthquake Park: Road or Coastal Trail ride, depending on trail conditions. This is a paved ride and the route will depend on trail conditions. Wear high-visibility jacket in case we're on the road. Conditions are often windy, so have layers for warmth. If there is still lots of snow on the trails, bring your fat-tire bike and ride the trail.

April 27: Bear and Moose Aware Clinic at Jack White Real Estate office; 3801 Centerpoint Drive; 1st floor conference room. 6:30 p.m. Come find out about how to be smart about bears and moose while recreating in Alaska. This is a must-attend for anyone who wants to be safer living near wildlife. You'll get to practice with a blank bear canister. Bring snacks and desserts (because this is one of the few Diva events where you won't have to worry that a bear is looking for a snack!).

April 29: Chugiak High School; Pavement ride; 6:30 p.m.  Pre-ride the Bike for Women course. This ride is on paved roads with limited shoulders. Wear bright colors and expect windy conditions, plenty of hills.

MAY
All rides in May begin at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
May 3:  Chugiak High School; Bike for Women; 9:30 a.m. For more information, go to the website.

May 6: Elderberry Park; Spring Formal; 6 p.m. This is a favorite! A dress-up parade on the Coastal Trail followed by a get-together at a local restaurant (no-host). What to wear? Be sure it's bike-compatible and you can still wear your helmet. After that, anything goes! Feather boas, anyone?

May 13: Chuck Albrecht Fields (Elmore and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.) Pavement ride on greenbelt trails. There could be patches of snow, depending on weather the previous weeks.

May 16-17: Denali Weekend.

May 18: Service High School; Crazy Mud Skills Clinic. For all levels of riders. Be more confident leading group rides; learn some sweet bike-handling skills that you can practice and share with other Divas. (Recommended if taking future skills clinics.)

May 20: Kasuun Elementary School (Campbell Tract or Elmore paved trail). First dirt ride of the season, conditions permitting. If trails are too wet, this will be a pavement ride north on Elmore Road path. If trails or dry, we'll cross Elmore and ride on Campbell Tract's dirt/gravel trails.

Hi! Just joined the DDs and paid my dues, but was unable to find a "submit" button for the online waiver form. Help? I don't want my Eklutna registration to be voided. Thanks! -Erin
